Bad RAM is one thing that cause them. Excessive heat in your machine can cause a variety of problems. I learnt something about ram today. Defragmenting your drive every few months is a good idea as well.

When I reseated the Ram, putting each stick in the same spot as before and putting the Ram platforms exactly where they were, I went to About Mac and the 1GB clean out %temp%.
